This year, A World of Furniture proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone – 30 years of trading. For three decades, we have been helping families across Dorset, Wiltshire, and beyond to create homes filled with comfort, style, and personality.

What began as a local independent business has grown into one of the region’s most trusted furniture retailers, with superstores in Blandford and Salisbury. Yet, through all the changes and growth, our core values have remained the same: quality furniture, honest pricing, and customer service you can trust.

Our Early Days

Back in the early 1990s, the world of furniture retail looked very different. Choice was often limited, and high-quality pieces were seen as a luxury out of reach for many. A World of Furniture was created with a clear vision – to bring quality furniture at fair, affordable prices to local people, without compromising on service.

From day one, our focus was on creating a showroom experience that felt warm and welcoming. We wanted customers to feel relaxed as they browsed, knowing our team was there to help — never to pressure. That same ethos continues in our stores today, and it has been at the heart of everything we’ve built over the past three decades.

Growth and Expansion

Over the years, demand grew as more people discovered the difference that shopping with an independent, family-run business could make. Word spread quickly — not just about our products, but also about the personal service and genuine care that came with every visit.

From a single location, A World of Furniture expanded into larger showrooms, eventually establishing Four superstores in Blandford, and Salisbury. These stores allowed us to showcase an ever-growing range of furniture, from sofas, dining tables, and beds to recliners, wardrobes, and accessories.

Along the way, we’ve introduced leading British brands into our collections, becoming stockists for some of the most respected names in the industry:

• Alexander & James – masters of luxurious, laid-back comfort.

• Sherborne Upholstery – with its heritage of over 90 years of British craftsmanship.

• Tetrad – known for bold, characterful designs and timeless style.

• G-Plan – iconic furniture with a mid-century modern touch.

Becoming stockists for these household names has allowed us to offer customers even more choice and quality while maintaining the personal touch that makes shopping with us unique. (and so much more)

Perhaps the achievement we are most proud of is the loyalty of our customers. Over the past 30 years, we’ve helped newlyweds choose their first sofa, supported growing families as they furnished bigger homes, and assisted retirees in finding the perfect recliner or bed for relaxation.

We’ve even seen multiple generations from the same family return to us time and again, knowing they can rely on us for honest advice, excellent value, and furniture built to last. That trust is something we never take for granted.

Commitment to Service and Sustainability

In recent years, we’ve taken steps to go beyond just selling furniture. Our new mattress recycling service is a perfect example. When customers buy a new mattress from us, they can choose the hassle-free option for us to collect and recycle their old one at the same time as delivery. For a small fee, this service makes life easier for customers while ensuring that old mattresses are responsibly recycled, reducing waste and protecting the environment.

This balance of customer care and environmental responsibility is central to who we are. As we look to the future, we’re committed to expanding initiatives like this, making sustainable choices simpler for our customers.
