This is a question that often gets asked about our Vancouver Oak Furniture range and if you have purchased this stunning range it is only sensible that you know how to look after it.
As this product is oiled the best thing to do is…… well oil it, no no I don’t mean get out a bottle of Castrol and smother it all over – its slightly less messy than that!
The best thing to use is a clear furniture oil, we do have a very good oil from Morrells that we use, or you can use a Danish oil which is available from most good DIY stores.
The best way to apply any oil to oak is with a soft cloth, an old T-shirt or duster will do, then apply the oil to the cloth, not too much, a “little and often” approach should be used, takes a little more time but is worth it.
It is best to apply direct to the cloth as if it is “puddled” onto the table surface and it is not distributed evenly across the surface immediately the oil will not only take longer to be absorbed by the oak, it will also darken the oak slightly which will be patchy if poured onto the surface.
So with cloth in hand, oil applied, it is easy, just follow along the grain of the oak reapplying oil to the cloth when needed, then once you have finished leave to dry… thats it really, do this as often or as little as you like, just leave the surface long enough to dry between coats but keep in mind, it is a natural material so the more often you do it the better the wood will be for it, the warmth in your home (especially over the winter) and constant use will dry the surface a little, so try and replenish the natural oils as much as you can and your Vancouver Furniture will last you a life time.
